The Lady Who Sings the Blues

The 1972 American biographical drama film about a jazz singer named Billie Holiday. The drama was based on her life. She was arrested for drug charges in 1936 in New York City.  From there her life seemed to go spiraling out of control.

Working in domestic jobs in a brothel to pay the bills. Billie was raped in one of those jobs which lead her to return home to her mothers home in Harlem.  Harlem presented another turning point in her life, so bad, auditioning for a job as showgirl was unsuccessful, however, meeting the piano man became very rewarding for her career at first.

Then Billie's career faced very difficult times for her in an era where racial problems pledged the country, her own drug addition and a prison sentence for drug charges continues to turn her life upside down.  Her License to perform was revoked.

After the loss of her trusted friend the "piano man," Billie get another chance to rebuild her singing career by singing for a sold out performance at Carnegie Hall.  She sang the famous "God Bless the Child."   Her performance was amazing. Just not amazing enough for the Commission to restore her license.

Billie was arrested on drug charges again, which in reality, she just gave up and died at the age of 44.

I'm no Billie Holiday, but wearing the Yanikka Gown, Kathryn Classic Full Set Jewelry and freshly manicured nails has me feeling as beautiful as the Lady Who Sings the Blues.
